Pay your tax before April 30 and get 5 per cent rebate

14 Apr

It’s April and time to pay your annual property tax to Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for the new financial year through the Self Assessment Scheme (SAS).

With property tax collection for 2011-12 beginning from April 1, property owners can avail 5 per cent rebate on full payment of tax for 2011 -12 if paid before April 30.

The BBMP was contemplating to hike property tax by 15 per cent as per the revised SAS rulebook. However, the taxpayers can now heave a sigh of relief as the civic body has dropped the idea.

Taxpayers can pay the tax in two instalments without penalty or availing rebate if the first half-year instalment is paid between May 1 and May 30. The second half-year instalment without penalty or availing rebate can be paid between October 1 and November 29. From November 30, a penalty of 2 per cent on the tax amount will be levied every month for the late payment of property tax.

Speaking to Cityplus, BBMP deputy commissioner (Revenue) I Ramakanth said that taxpayers can also pay property tax through credit or debit cards at no extra charge from this year onwards as part of cashless transaction.
