28 Jan

In at least two cases, maids hired through a placement agency and a security agency looted valuables from the employer’s house.

Bangalore is home to lakhs of working couples who need a maid at home. With demand being high, some people have started offering maids at your doorsteps. Dubious people are taking advantage of demand for maids among working couples. But in at least two cases, maids hired through a placement agency and a security agency looted valuables from the employer’s house.

In another case, Rahul Sharma and his wife, both techies and residents of an apartment complex near Sarjapur Road, availed the services of a maid through Delhi-based Sushil Kumar Placements. Sushil agreed to provide a maid in Bangalore for a commission of Rs 25,000 plus Rs 2,000 in travelling expenses. A woman identified as Renu brought a maid named Aarati to Rahu’ls house on January 18. Aarati provided her bio-data and a character certificate issued by the New Delhi police. On January 20, she was not to be found in the house. Electronic goods and other valuables were also missing. Rahul tried to contact Sushil and Renu, but their mobile phones were switched off.

At Least Four Thefts in Less Than 10 Days on Volvo

31 Dec

The success of BMTC’s Volvo fleet in attracting an upmarket class of commuters has drawn the attention of pick-pockets who were a menace in the Parisaravahinis (blue buses). Techies travelling between Ramamurthy Nagar and Marathahalli are increasingly becoming victims of such gangs. Shockingly, the thieves are often well-dressed women accompanied by a couple of men who lull co-passengers into complacency with polite smiles.

At least four thefts have been reported (on bus nos 500A and 500B) between Ramamurthy Nagar and Marathahalli in less than 10 days. It is very difficult to make out pick-pockets from their appearance as they are well-dressed and polite to co-passengers.

At least four thefts have been reported in less than 10 days on Volvos plying between Ramamurthy Nagar and Marathahalli. With most of the Volvos operating between posh localities, these gangs see it as an opportunity to get their hands on big moolah as compared to their take in other buses. Techies are increasingly becoming victims of such gangs.

The offenders are riding a black Pulsar with kannada registration number plate. They are two or three of them. According to victims, one person is stout and has a dark complexion and another one is lean with medium complexion.

They stop vehicle on a pretext, saying that victim caused an accident. They tell you, you have to pay the amount immediately, as the injured person is the brother of a local Don. They will persuade you to pay the money and speaks Kannada and broken Hindi. The target is usually a lone rider. Especially techies in Sarjapur, outer ring road were the main targets. Timings are usually between 11 am to 4 pm.

The HSR Layout police have issued a list of guidelines for citizens to prevent mugging and help the police in nabbing them. Police constables are now patrolling the same roads in plain clothes. In case of mugging or emergency, citizen can call these police for help.

How to Prevent and How You Can Help the Police in Nabbing Them

  • If you come across such an incident, be bold, do not panic.
  • Don’t get down from the vehicle. If they chase you, immediately call the police or reach the traffic police for help.
  • Stop the vehicle where there are people and raise an alarm.
  • Lock the internal locks of the vehicle. So that they cannot sit inside your vehicle.
  • If by chance they get into your vehicle, get out immediately – you will be in a public place. Raise your voice and call the people around.
  • Registration Number of offender’s vehicle is kannada and vicitm finds it difficult to read. In such case, take photograph of vehicle number plate and try to click their pictures with your cell phone.
  • If you are smart/tactful enough and can hold them in conversion, inform the police by way of SMS or call and assure that you will pay them and engage them till police reaches you.
  • You can even tell them that you can arrange money from your friend and take them to place, where you know the people and then try to catch them with the help of known people and hand over them to police.
  • If they try to threaten you or manhandle you, keep a pepper spray as a defense and use it properly and carefully “if necessary”.
