Think Before You Hire Maids

28 Jan

In at least two cases, maids hired through a placement agency and a security agency looted valuables from the employer’s house.

Bangalore is home to lakhs of working couples who need a maid at home. With demand being high, some people have started offering maids at your doorsteps. Dubious people are taking advantage of demand for maids among working couples. But in at least two cases, maids hired through a placement agency and a security agency looted valuables from the employer’s house.

In another case, Rahul Sharma and his wife, both techies and residents of an apartment complex near Sarjapur Road, availed the services of a maid through Delhi-based Sushil Kumar Placements. Sushil agreed to provide a maid in Bangalore for a commission of Rs 25,000 plus Rs 2,000 in travelling expenses. A woman identified as Renu brought a maid named Aarati to Rahu’ls house on January 18. Aarati provided her bio-data and a character certificate issued by the New Delhi police. On January 20, she was not to be found in the house. Electronic goods and other valuables were also missing. Rahul tried to contact Sushil and Renu, but their mobile phones were switched off.

At Least Four Thefts in Less Than 10 Days on Volvo

31 Dec

The success of BMTC’s Volvo fleet in attracting an upmarket class of commuters has drawn the attention of pick-pockets who were a menace in the Parisaravahinis (blue buses). Techies travelling between Ramamurthy Nagar and Marathahalli are increasingly becoming victims of such gangs. Shockingly, the thieves are often well-dressed women accompanied by a couple of men who lull co-passengers into complacency with polite smiles.

At least four thefts have been reported (on bus nos 500A and 500B) between Ramamurthy Nagar and Marathahalli in less than 10 days. It is very difficult to make out pick-pockets from their appearance as they are well-dressed and polite to co-passengers.

At least four thefts have been reported in less than 10 days on Volvos plying between Ramamurthy Nagar and Marathahalli. With most of the Volvos operating between posh localities, these gangs see it as an opportunity to get their hands on big moolah as compared to their take in other buses. Techies are increasingly becoming victims of such gangs.

Daylight Mugging in Sarjapur Road

24 May

Two miscreants riding on black colored Pulsar bike with Kannada registration number plate robbed money and gold chain in a starnge manner. The victim is identified as Suraj (name changed), a resident of Sarjapur who was returning from work for lunch when the incident occurred. The two miscreants riding  bike honked and asked him to stop the car. As soon as the victim stepped out of car, they said the victim has caused an accident on the way and they have been trying to stop him by following since then. He then said that there is a huge crowd that has gathered at the spot of the so called accident and need to go back to that spot to settle things.

Leaving their bike outside both miscreants sat in the car forcibly and started threatening him by claiming that the person injured is the younger brother of a local goon and that he is not going to leave him unharmed for this. They demanded  Rs 2 lakh as settlement for the injury to his friend.

According Victim “As soon as I took the left turn from ORR towards Suncity, two people on a black colored pulsar bike behind me started honking wildly and came by side of the car, asking me to stop. As soon I stepped out of the car, the guy driving the bike said that I had driven the car over the foot of the person sitting on the pillion of the bike and that his foot was badly injured. After this they came and forcibly sat inside the car, leaving the bike outside. He started demanding Rs 2 lakh as settlement for the injury to his friend. When I said that I didn’t have Rs 2 lakh, they asked me to get the money from the ATM. I told them that I had only 15k in ATM and I cannot pay them Rs 2 lakh at which they forced me to hand over my two gold rings and a gold chain. I was then forced to drive to the ATM with these guys following me on bike and withdraw cash. I handed my ring and chain to them to get out of the situation and hence I withdrew Rs 14,000 and gave it to them. As soon as I handed the money to them, they asked me to follow them but then they fled away. ”

The victim has approached HSR layout police station immediately and lodge a FIR. The bike was black pulsar with registration number plate in Kannada. The miscreants were in mid thirties (one stocky dark fellow and other was average build having wheatish complexion).

“I went to HSR layout police station immediately to lodge a FIR, the SI refused to lodge one and instead took a written complaint without any receipt. My repeat visit didn’t yield any results as SI/Inspector would not be present in the police station. Later on I came to know through various sources including police that such kind of incidents are on the rise in  ORR/HSR Layout.” added the Victim. Such daylight mugging is not first incident in Sarjapur road.

Warning From Indian Police Dept

Daylight mugging or theft can be happen to anyone. Its advisable not to stop the car for any unknown person even during daytime irrespective of the reason given by them. Even if you have to do this, drive the car to a place where you are comfortable and have help available at hand. Both Men and Women need to be aware of following things:

  • Beware of paper on the back window: When you walk across the car park, unlock your car, you start the engine and put it into Reverse, When you look into the rear-view mirror to back out of your space, you notice a piece of paper stuck to the middle of the rear screen. So you stop, and jump out of your car to remove that paper (or whatever it is), because it is obstructing your view. Then when you reach the back of your car,  the car-jackers appear out of nowhere. Your purse, bag and valuables would be still in the car. So  the car-jacker has your car, your home address, your money, and your keys. If you see a piece of paper stuck to the back window, lock your doors and just drive away.
  • Attacked with eggs on your car’s windshield: If you are driving at night and were attacked with eggs on your car’s windshield,DO NOT operate your wiper or spray any water.  Eggs mixed with water become milky and block your vision up to 92.5 %.You are forced to stop at road side and become victim of robbery. This is new technique usedby robbers.
  • Seeking Help: Miscreants sometimes act as their car breakdown or seeking any help. When you stop and step out of car, a gang appear out of nowhere and will fled away with your valuables and vehicle. Its advisable not to stop the car for any unknown person
  • Pedestrian is standing on the divider: A pedestrian will stand on the divider appearing to cross the road but is actually waiting for a lonely car driver. You may let them pass and as you pass him, he will hit back of car and two guys will say your car hit the person. They will ask you to take the injured person to the hospital in your car and two/three people will get into your car and then rip you off with whatever you have. Sometimes miscreants will chase your car in bike and will ask you to take the injured person to the hospital.
