Every time there are heavy showers the city is in a mess. And Sarjapur is no different. Sewage water spilling over to the roads is a common problem accentuated by people throwing garbage in drains.
If this is the condition in the pre-monsoon phase, one can imagine the scenario during peak monsoon.
On April 30, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) hired contractors to clean the open drains. Workers in the presence of contractors cleaned the open drains starting from the Bellandur outer ring road till Green Glen layout.
The drains were filled with vegetable peels and other eatables, dumped by people living on both sides of the road, resulting in a foul smell all around. Because of this, drains get clogged and after every rain, garbage and drain water spill over to the roads.
“We were troubled with the foul smell, but thank God, the BBMP cleaned the drains,” said a shopkeeper on the Bellandur outer ring road.
“We are private contractors hired on a daily basis by the BBMP. We have been told to clean up the drains at Bellandur road,” said the contractor. Apart from the drains, they also cleaned the debris that had got collected on the road.
