Daylight Mugging in Sarjapur Road

24 May

  • Sharebar

Two miscreants riding on black colored Pulsar bike with Kannada registration number plate robbed money and gold chain in a starnge manner. The victim is identified as Suraj (name changed), a resident of Sarjapur who was returning from work for lunch when the incident occurred. The two miscreants riding  bike honked and asked him to stop the car. As soon as the victim stepped out of car, they said the victim has caused an accident on the way and they have been trying to stop him by following since then. He then said that there is a huge crowd that has gathered at the spot of the so called accident and need to go back to that spot to settle things.

Leaving their bike outside both miscreants sat in the car forcibly and started threatening him by claiming that the person injured is the younger brother of a local goon and that he is not going to leave him unharmed for this. They demanded  Rs 2 lakh as settlement for the injury to his friend.

According Victim “As soon as I took the left turn from ORR towards Suncity, two people on a black colored pulsar bike behind me started honking wildly and came by side of the car, asking me to stop. As soon I stepped out of the car, the guy driving the bike said that I had driven the car over the foot of the person sitting on the pillion of the bike and that his foot was badly injured. After this they came and forcibly sat inside the car, leaving the bike outside. He started demanding Rs 2 lakh as settlement for the injury to his friend. When I said that I didn’t have Rs 2 lakh, they asked me to get the money from the ATM. I told them that I had only 15k in ATM and I cannot pay them Rs 2 lakh at which they forced me to hand over my two gold rings and a gold chain. I was then forced to drive to the ATM with these guys following me on bike and withdraw cash. I handed my ring and chain to them to get out of the situation and hence I withdrew Rs 14,000 and gave it to them. As soon as I handed the money to them, they asked me to follow them but then they fled away. ”

The victim has approached HSR layout police station immediately and lodge a FIR. The bike was black pulsar with registration number plate in Kannada. The miscreants were in mid thirties (one stocky dark fellow and other was average build having wheatish complexion).

“I went to HSR layout police station immediately to lodge a FIR, the SI refused to lodge one and instead took a written complaint without any receipt. My repeat visit didn’t yield any results as SI/Inspector would not be present in the police station. Later on I came to know through various sources including police that such kind of incidents are on the rise in  ORR/HSR Layout.” added the Victim. Such daylight mugging is not first incident in Sarjapur road.

Warning From Indian Police Dept

Daylight mugging or theft can be happen to anyone. Its advisable not to stop the car for any unknown person even during daytime irrespective of the reason given by them. Even if you have to do this, drive the car to a place where you are comfortable and have help available at hand. Both Men and Women need to be aware of following things:

  • Beware of paper on the back window: When you walk across the car park, unlock your car, you start the engine and put it into Reverse, When you look into the rear-view mirror to back out of your space, you notice a piece of paper stuck to the middle of the rear screen. So you stop, and jump out of your car to remove that paper (or whatever it is), because it is obstructing your view. Then when you reach the back of your car,  the car-jackers appear out of nowhere. Your purse, bag and valuables would be still in the car. So  the car-jacker has your car, your home address, your money, and your keys. If you see a piece of paper stuck to the back window, lock your doors and just drive away.
  • Attacked with eggs on your car’s windshield: If you are driving at night and were attacked with eggs on your car’s windshield,DO NOT operate your wiper or spray any water.  Eggs mixed with water become milky and block your vision up to 92.5 %.You are forced to stop at road side and become victim of robbery. This is new technique usedby robbers.
  • Seeking Help: Miscreants sometimes act as their car breakdown or seeking any help. When you stop and step out of car, a gang appear out of nowhere and will fled away with your valuables and vehicle. Its advisable not to stop the car for any unknown person
  • Pedestrian is standing on the divider: A pedestrian will stand on the divider appearing to cross the road but is actually waiting for a lonely car driver. You may let them pass and as you pass him, he will hit back of car and two guys will say your car hit the person. They will ask you to take the injured person to the hospital in your car and two/three people will get into your car and then rip you off with whatever you have. Sometimes miscreants will chase your car in bike and will ask you to take the injured person to the hospital.

    Hi All,

Exactly same thing happened to me yesterday near the belandur signal. Honking> stoping of car> foot injury story> brother of local goon>…exactly the same story. I handed my ring and chain to them to get out of the situation…dropped the idea of going to police station as I was not in the right state of my mind. But tomorrow, I’m definitely going to visit police station and file the complaint…It can be assumed that police will not do anything but they have to be notified about the incidence.

Exactly the same thing happened to me as well at the corner of Sarapur Road turning to Outer ring road somewhere in the month of April 2010. I got away cheaply at that time. They seem to be getting greedier now. I had a feeling i was being conned by the way they were behaving but I didn’t have the frame of mind to notice their number plate. They were on a black pulsar. One dark and Fat guy who forced himself in the car. If this happens to anyone please don’t let them in your car and if possible note the number plate of the bike.

This happened to me on July 10th- 12.30pm on a saturday. These gays have become bold enough to do this in a crowded place too.
I knew about this gang already and had the presence of mind to escape – hence did not lose anything.

When passing by HDFC Bank, one guy trying to cross the road hit his hand on my car. Then when I was waiting to park near the shops ahead of that, they came on the Pulsar and asked me to stop on the side. I said ok.
As they passed in front of me and pulled over to the left, I noticed the kannada number plate and in that ‘flight or fight’ moment – I chose to fly.
I drove my car as fast as I could. They followed me, but could not reach me. I turned into my apartment’s gate by braking hard, they did not even slow down, they carried on towards Sarjapur.

I spoke to the police on the phone and informed them about it. Within 10 minutes I saw a police car and 3 bikes going in the direction of my report.

Another incident was in the same area on Sunday 18th. This guy was not aware of this scam. They ended up sitting in his car for 30 minutes and terrorizing him. He told them he had 7k only in his bank, that made them really mad. They were unable to take out his gold chain and ring. They even told him to keep the gold in the nearby pawn shop and give them cash, but he refused. The fat guy showed him a bag with loads of cash in it, telling him that 7k is too less.
At some point, they got frustrated and left him.

Hope the cops are able to catch them soon.

Next time bike gang catches you, tell him that

“Your bike has got FAKE license number” , if he challenges it, ask him to read the bike license number , you SMS the details to RTO , you will get back registration corresponding to the bike, now ask them to show ID card.
