The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP) has cracked down on the illegal dumping of solid waste, mud and construction debris into storm water drains and by roadsides during the night by vehicles in areas under its jurisdiction.
The BBMP commissioner has warned people that stringent action would be initiated against violators. He has directed all additional and joint commissioners of eight BBMP zones to take the assistance of police department in identifying such vehicles and seizing them.
“A report will be sent to the regional transport office concerned to take action against such vehicles,” BBMP commissioner Siddaiah said.
A penalty of Rs 10,000 for tractors and Rs 25,000 for lorries will be levied if the vehicle is caught red-handed while dumping debris. “The BBMP is also contemplating an award an incentive of Rs 5,000 to citizens who provide information on illegal dumping of solid waste. We will also initiate action against property owners who dump construction material on footpaths, causing inconvenience and hardship to pedestrians,” he said.
Penalty will be imposed against property owners if they continue dumping construction materials on footpaths and road. The material will be confiscated by BBMP.
