With Bangalore rising fast on the Indian horizon, IT companies started looking towards the suburbs. The last five years has seen villages on the outskirts of Bangalore transform into cosmopolitan areas.

East Bangalore’s Whitefield, Sarjapur, HSR and Marathahalli can now be described as the Young Bangalore. Sarjapur is one such example which has seen a complete turnaround from a neglected isolated place to being home to a major population of Silicon Valley techies.

The Sarjapur-Hosur Road is one of the busiest in the city with over two lakh employees taking the route every day.

With the corporate gateway opened up by Wipro, the real estate boom on Sarjapur Road was flagged off in the early 1990s and the IT sector began shifting attention from Electronic City and started looking at Sarjapur Road as large parcels of land were available then. In the end-90s came up the Marathahalli-Sarjapur Outer Ring Road (ORR) which boosted connectivity to Sarjapur Road tremendously. IT companies sprung up on the ORR and Sarjapur Road, making it a hot belt after ITPL.

According to Mr R. Balaji, a property consultant – Builders started residential projects at Sarjapur Road, to cater to the IT populace. Naming some of the which brought a revolution in the real estate on Sarjapur Road are Sobha Topaz, Suncity, Springfield, and many more. Among the known builders to build project at Sarjapur Road are Vakil Housing, UKN properties and Sobha Group.

Adds Balaji, “Around 2004, BDA acquired property in Iblur on Sarjapur Road for layouts, which gave a fillip to real estate. Today, the 10 km stretch of Sarjapur Road has it all — commercial buildings, premium villas, golf course surrounding houses, row houses, apartment complexes and retail malls. In the stretch before the railway track, there is vibrant residential, retail and office space.”

Prices

“The current pricing for a villa on Sarjapur Road is between Rs. 1.5 crore and Rs. 2 crore depending on the location and the project itself, and genuine approvable land can be bought for around Rs. 3000-4000 per sq.ft. Built-up residential property is around Rs. 3500 + per sq.ft, while residential rentals are around Rs.12-18 per sq.ft. and commercials stand at around Rs. 35-70 per sq.ft.

Infosys campus may not come on Sarjapur Road???

Infosys campus may not come on Sarjapur Road. Infosys made several representations to successive governments, seeking land near Sarjapur Road, but got nothing apart from bundles of assurances. The company waited quite some time, expecting the state to grant it land for setting up a second software development centre in the city. But in the end, it ran out of patience and shifted expansion plans to Pune.

T A Mohandas Pai, human resources director, Infosys, said there had been a shift in the focus of the company, which was once synonymous with Bangalore.In another 12 months’ time, Pune will have more seats/employees than Bangalore campus. Even the Infosys-Pune campus would soon become bigger than that of Infosys-Bangalore.

The move has got nothing to do with the cost factor. Blame it on Karnataka’s political indifference and bureaucratic laxity in land allotment and registration.

Balconies unsafe for children

There are many apartments in Sarjapur, but you can see that the balconies in most of these apartments are not child-friendly. Even after fatal incidences of unsafe balconies, builders in the city are not giving proper attention to this.

If you notice the apartments in Bangalore properly, most of these are designed well.  But in making the apartment complexes stylish one, people have ignored to make the balconies in the houses safe for children. These are designed very low which is dangerous for the kids. In order to avoid children from going to the balconies, terrace gardening is done in most of the apartments in Sarjapur. Some even placed big tin sheets in the balcony to fill up the huge gaps in between railings. There are also apartments in Sarjapur, where there are no balconies in the apartments.Setting firm rules with regard to balcony safety, is protection for everybody.

Some helpful tips

  • Ensure that the access door is securely locked at all times and put the key where your child cannot possibility reach it.
  • Make sure that there is nothing available to enable any child to climb up and hang over the wall or railings.
  • Secure a safety “fence”, or even a sheet of perspex, firmly along open railings. Babies and small children can get through surprisingly small spaces.
  • Terrace gardening or Balcony Gardening helps to avoid children from going or playing in the balconies.
  • If you live in an apartment or even visit friends who live in an apartment do remember to consider balcony safety.

Another Chance for getting your Voter ID from BBMP

The BBMP Bangalore has resumed issuing voter’s photo identity cards. If your name is in electoral list, but don’t have a photo Id, you can utilize this chance . In case you need to correct mistakes in your Id, you can submit them.

The BBMP has been distributing forms with names and details of voter whose name is in electoral list, but don’t have a photo Id. For this you need to contact your BBMP ward which you belong to. The official will give you a form with your names and details printed in it. Check out printed details like name, address, age etc on given form and affix your passport size photograph along side and submit at ward office or official who comes to your doorstep. If there are any mistakes or you want to correct mistakes in electoral list like name, address, age etc, you can write down the correct ones in the respective column alongside the form and submit the same.

Voters whose name is in electoral list, but don’t have a photo Id can collect form from their BBMP ward and should submit at ward office on or before July 4. If your name is not in electoral list, you can get in included by submitting a filled up Form-6. The last dated for inclusion of name in electoral list is July 6.




If you have completed 18 years and your name is not in electoral list, you can submit filled up Form-6 with your address proof (property tax receipt , rent receipt, bank account statement, passport, LPG or telephone bills, etc.) and proof of your age (if you have never enrolled earlier). Your name will be included in list after verification. The BBMP ward official will inform you details or procedure to get your voter’s photo identity card once your name is included in electoral list.

For deleting or objecting to the non-resident and deceased persons’ names from the list Form-7 should be submitted. In case, you have moved into the city recently or have not registered so far or turned 18 recently, include your name on the voters list quickly.

The BBMP has been distributing forms for Voters whose name is in electoral list, but don’t have a photo Id. You need to check out printed details, affix your passport size photograph along side and submit to the BBMP Ward which you belongs to. Later the officials will check it, scan the photograph and finally issue the voter’s ID card (EPIC) to your doorstep sometime in July end.
